In November 2013 I returned from a fabulous trip to The Gambia with The Gambia Experience where the sunshine is guaranteed! The Gambia is only a 6 hour flight from the UK and with no jet lag, you can be on the beach by the afternoon enjoying your first cocktail which suited me just fine!
+ Fantastic winter sun, average temperature 32 degrees
+ Twice weekly flights from Gatwick & Manchester and weekly flights from Birmingham
+ Premium Class upgrades and legroom seats available
+ No hidden extras – 20kgs luggage, flights, transfers and in-flight meals all included in package prices
+ English speaking
I was amazed by the quality of hotels, exquisite cuisine and friendly people not to mention the wildlife. There is plenty to see and do outside the hotels with a variety of excursions giving you an insight into this wonderful country including a 4wd adventure, boat trips, forest walks, bird watching, cooking with Ida. Whatever your budget, there is something to suit from luxury boutique hotels to great value.

Further information regarding the hotels I visited are as follows;
Kombo Beach 3.5 grade Kotu
This was my home whilst in The Gambia and is a great mid-range hotel with a fabulous beach front location. It’s a lively hotel with activities and entertainment throughout the day and evening. The standard rooms are fairly basic but there are plenty of room upgrades available! Kombo has a great atmosphere and by the end of my trip I had grown to love it.
Senegambia 3.5 grade Kololi
If you want a mid-range hotel with lots of bars and restaurants on your doorstep then this is your place. It is situated on the beach as well as having an impressive beach side pool and bar in addition to a second swimming pool. It is the largest and one of the best-known hotels in The Gambia.
Mandina Lodges Unique – Makasutu Forest
I was blown away by these lodges and the surrounding area, it is truly stunning. These striking riverside lodges offer an unforgettable experience in the wilderness with the chance to discover the people and wildlife of The Gambia that have made the forest their home. The lodges have won a place in the book ‘1001 Escapes To Make Before You Die’.
Ngala Lodge Boutique Hotel – Bakau/Fajara
This small intimate hotel is very popular perhaps because of its child-free policy but more so because of its unique suites, beautiful gardens and outstanding cuisine. Overlooking the ocean the atmosphere at Ngala Lodge is very relaxed and is the perfect place for people looking to unwind or enjoy a romantic break. With just 18 suites, this hotel has an exclusive feel and is an absolute gem so book early to avoid disappointment.
The Kairaba Beach Hotel 5 grade – Kololi
Set amongst immaculate grounds, this hotel is all about peace and relaxation yet is only a few minutes’ walk from the hub of restaurants and bars outside. The beach here has suffered some erosion but this hotel still remains one of the most popular selling especially for repeat customers.
I spent my time in The Gambia visiting hotels, dining out and discovering what The Gambia has to offer… Just another day in the office! If you should have any questions or enquiries please do not hesitate to contact me and ask me all about it!

Vicky Samwell
